No One Told Us: Why Sex Education for Kids Has to Start With You
May 26, 2025
How did you find out where babies come from?
It’s a simple question I’ve been asking across my social media channels for the past month. The answers? They surprised me.
Most people didn’t answer with a funny story or a vivid memory. Instead, they said something unexpected:
“I honestly don’t remember.”
“No one ever really told me.”
“I figured it out somehow, I guess?”
Over and over, I heard the same thing: silence, confusion, and vague memories of piecing it all together alone.
Of the few who did share their stories, the common thread was alarming. A stork story told with a nervous laugh. A random book handed over with no explanation. An outdated birthing video in middle school that left them traumatized, not informed. Not one person recalled a calm, supportive adult sitting down and offering a clear, science-based conversation.
Here’s What That Tells Us:
Most of us learned about sex, bodies, puberty, and identity in the most unintentional ways possible. And that’s a problem.
Because when something as fundamental as sex education is left to myths, media, and the internet, our kids don’t just miss facts — they miss context, confidence, safety, and self-understanding.
And that’s where my work begins.
The Real Impact of Avoiding Sex Education
I won’t sugarcoat it: my work is hard.
We live in a world where kids are growing up with more access to misinformation than ever before — online, from peers, from pop culture — and yet the conversations that matter most are still being avoided at home. Not because parents don’t care, but because they often don’t know how to start.
Sex education isn’t just about biology. It’s about boundaries. Identity. Consent. Confidence. It's about preparing your child not just for puberty, but for a lifetime of healthy relationships — with others and with themselves.
When kids don’t get this education from a trusted adult, they get it elsewhere. And when we don’t talk to them about sex and identity, we leave them to figure out the most complex parts of being human alone.
Why Parents Need to Be the Ones Who Talk First
Parents, I need to tell you something hard but true: your child needs you to be the one who talks to them about sex. Not school. Not YouTube. Not TikTok. You.
But here's the catch — most parents aren’t actively looking for this information. They're not Googling “how to talk to my 8-year-old about sex” or “age-appropriate sex ed at home.” They’re waiting, often unsure when the “right time” is.
Meanwhile, the clock is ticking.
What my polling has shown me more than anything is that we need clarity. We need a culture shift. And it starts with realizing that you don’t have to be perfect — you just have to start.
I Created This for You
I know this isn’t an easy sell. Talking about sex is uncomfortable for many adults — especially when they never had those conversations themselves. But what if you could change that story for your child?
What if you could be the person who made it normal, safe, and empowering to talk about bodies, sex, identity, and boundaries?
That’s why I do this work. I created resources — classes, guides, conversations — that help you talk to your child with clarity, confidence, and care. Not to add one more thing to your already-full plate, but to help you transform your child’s life with information they can trust.
This is how we raise a generation that doesn’t have to say, “No one ever told me.”
